Subject: mm-remove-part lock-up during group exit in p0.95
Date: 04 Aug 1999 09:16:24 -0400 [thread overview]
Message-ID: <vxk1zdjbs9j.fsf@beaver.jprc.com> (raw)
I was in nnml:mailer-daemon, had looked at a spam bounce-o-gram, whose
original spam content was HTML. I had just done `B DEL' to destroy it
and was then trying to leave the group. This error bit me hard:
Signaling: (wrong-type-argument listp "iso-8859-1")
mm-remove-part((charset . "iso-8859-1"))
mm-destroy-part((charset . "iso-8859-1"))
mm-destroy-parts(((charset . "iso-8859-1")))
mm-destroy-parts(("multipart/report" (#<killed buffer> ("text/plain") nil nil nil nil nil nil) (#<killed buffer> ("message/delivery-status") nil nil nil nil nil nil) (#<killed buffer> ("message/rfc822") nil nil nil nil nil nil) "multipart/report" (#<killed buffer> ("text/plain") nil nil nil nil nil nil) (#<killed buffer> ("message/delivery-status") nil nil nil nil nil nil) (#<killed buffer> ("message/rfc822") nil nil nil nil nil nil) #<buffer " *mm*<7>"> ("text/html" (charset . "iso-8859-1")) quoted-printable (lambda nil (let ... ... ...)) nil nil nil nil))
#<compiled-function (&optional temporary) "...(395)" [gnus-set-global-variables gnus-article-buffer buffer get-buffer buffer-name mm-destroy-parts gnus-article-mime-handles gnus-kill-save-kill-buffer gnus-async-halt-prefetch gnus-newsgroup-name group gnus-group-quit-config quit-config major-mode mode nil group-point buf gnus-newsgroup-adaptive gnus-score-adaptive gnus-use-scoring gnus-score-save gnus-run-hooks gnus-summary-prepare-exit-hook gnus-single-article-buffer gnus-original-article-buffer kill-buffer gnus-article-current gnus-use-cache gnus-cache-possibly-remove-articles gnus-cache-save-buffers gnus-async-prefetch-remove-group gnus-suppress-duplicates gnus-dup-enter-articles gnus-use-trees gnus-tree-close nnmail-purge-split-history gname string-match "^[^:]+:" 0 gnus-exit-group-hook gnus-summary-update-info gnus-close-group gnus-group-buffer gnus-group-jump-to-group gnus-summary-exit-hook gnus-group-group-name gnus-group-next-unread-group 1 ...] 5 ("/home/karl/Emacs/

nus/gnus-sum.elc" . 146741) nil>()
call-interactively(gnus-summary-exit)
Unfortunately, having `B DEL'd the message, I can't even show its
content in order to see what weirdness was going on. This error
amounted to a total lock-up of Gnus for me, because I couldn't leave
the group by any means. I had to manually move to the *Group* buffer
and exit uncleanly out from there; Gnus offered to let me "update
*Summary:nnml.mailer-daemon*?", to which I stupidly said yes, and got
the same error again, as it tried again erroneously to clean up. I
finally exited Gnus by quitting without any updates.
