The modifications p0.40->p0.41 of nntp.el seem to induce a general hang. I have 2 NNTP servers, yet "netstat -t" confirms that p0.41 is only connecting to the first (greeting above) with no data left in-queue. I've not chased through nntp.el before; if there's some particular function that should be traced, let me know and I'll give it a try with edebug. Putting p0.40's nntp.el into p0.41 makes things work fine.
