Subject: Noseless arrow lines?

It has bothered me for a long time that the "noseless" form of
repeated `^' gets replaced with a face, when the usual use of a line
of `^' is to underline something for special attention by the reader.
Would this patch be acceptable, to remove the noseless form entirely?
