I'm testing TM, and several things are getting all munged up so bear with
me.  Anyways someone brought up the possibility that gnus-uu might have the
possibly of making a directory.  I don't know if this has been discussed
yet, but is there any reason why gnus-uu-default-directory is set to
default-directory and not (or (getenv "SAVEDIR") "~/News")?  Just seems
kinda strange to me that's all.

I hadn't considered that possibility.  Hmn.  Seems like a good idea to
me, so I'll do that in September 0.43.

Or perhaps Gnus should just create the directory automatically?

If you use X u for decoding, a new, temporary directory is created in
/tmp.  Everything in that directory gets deleted automatically when
the group is exited.  I find this usable as you can decode a bunch of
messages, browse them to see what's worth keeping, and copy those to
somewhere permanent.  It works for me.  An operation in Gnus to copy a
pseudo article into a non-news/mail directory would be quite handy.
