Actually, that's not only possible -- it's trivial.  It's just a call
to `gnus-rebuild-thread' with a small wrapper around.  I've added it
to the todo list.

I think that would require writing an nnwais (or something) backend.
Since I don't use WAIS, I'm not the person to write such a beast.  So
perhaps somebody else feels the call?
