[snip!] The major thing to remember with Gnus, is to let old habits from earlier mail programs go, and just go with the flow and read your mail like it was news. You don't want to renumber messages in a mail folder. You don't even want to *know* the number of a message, anymore that you want to know the message number of a USENET message on a particular server. What I do is use total-expiry, and set up the expiry time to four weeks for the mailgroups that see most traffic. Then I just either - read articles and let them go - mark them as read with "d" - tick them with "u" - mark them dormant with "?" In the case of the first two, the article will reside in the mail group for four weeks and then quietly go away. In the case of the latter two the articles will never go away. This lets me process mail more efficiently than earlier, because my experience is that *if* I will need a message for later, this is most likely to occur within the next four weeks. Now all I need is to get Kai's search engine backend (nnir.el) up and running...:-)
