Been running qgnus.0.22 for a while but only now got brave enough to try
the agent out.

Following directions in info, I have inserted the (gnus-agentize) phrase
in .gnus.

Attempting to start gnus I start emacs then M-x gnus-unplugged <RET>

but all I get is "no match"

It seems I must start gnus with M-x gnus <RET> give authinfo (haven't
tried the new setup on that yet) wait as usual to get the news etc.

Only then does M-x gnus-unplugged, seem to do anything.
The groups that had numbers (of unread) by them suddenly get '*'s by them,
accept "nntp+sunsite.auc.dk:emacs.ding" which keep its number of unread
(maybe because it is set to level 4?)

That was the first session-- closed down tried again - same sequence.

So apparently you must get plugged before you can do anything else.
The directions say to "start gnus with 'gnus-unplugged'"

Go online to get offline?
Probably doing something wrong (or many things!)

Is the above description normal behaviour?

Harry,

Sorry to butt in since I am also only fairly new to the qgnus cycle but it only
seems fair that if you are going to comment on a feature, especially with
regards to possible buggy behavior, that you use a fairly current version of
the software being tested. Since Lars has just released 0.27, it would seem
that alot may have happened since your version of 0.22, no?

Just MHO.

Harry,

add the following to your .emacs (not .gnus, you want it to happen
before you issue the gnus-unplugged)

(load-library '"gnus-agent")

or alternatively, issue

M-x load-library RET gnus-agent RET

before M-x gnus-unplugged RET

This worked for me.

Gack.. I may have lost my wits here a little. This happened on a
vmware install of linux and emacs... not my regular workstation. On the vmware
I don't have any servers agentized so nothing gets downloaded.

I'm so used to running gnus on the main linux desktop I forgot where I was
at....

"I do see `unplugged' in the mode line when I start Gnus with `M-x
gnus-unplugged RET'", I meant to say.

I do. No Gnus v0.11 (CVS Update from December 17 2008) on GNU Emacs
22.3.1 (i386-mingw-nt6.0.6001) of 2008-09-06 on SOFT-MJASON.

No, I don't think so. For me it doesn't get new news in this
situation.

Indeed.

When I call M-x gnus-unplugged, shouldn't I see `unplugged' in the
mode line?

Further when I do M-x gnus-unplugged it appears to have the same
effect as gnus-group-get-new-news... is that normal? It just seems
wrong on the face of it.
