Really, must the next version be called Quassia Gnus?  I will not rest
until it is renamed to Shades of Purity Gnus.

I haven't seen the new colors yet, but I like the shades of purity
concept, and use it in general.  Here are my gnus-cite faces as an
example, give them a whirl if you like:

(set-face-foreground 'gnus-cite-face-2 "SlateBlue")
(set-face-foreground 'gnus-cite-face-3 "SteelBlue")
