I received a message with text and html alternative parts. I have gnus set up to show me Text by default. Out of curiosity I did 'C-u g' to have a look at the raw message. I then did 'g' to get back to the plain ol' text. To my surprise Gnus started loading the dozen or so files associated with w3! It showed me the text part, but I could switch to the html part right away, no waiting.
