-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-----

Herein follows the quick and easy way to repair the infinite gnus-version
nodes to gnus-format-specs. Although 0.55 fixed the prepending, it won't
remove the other stuff. As far as I know it doesn't hurt to have about 50
of these nodes added, but if you're like me and when you finally discovered
the problem, you had about 350 nodes appended to the .newsrc.eld file,
you'll find it a lot easier to just delete that entire section (AFAIK
gnus-format-specs is the last section of the .newsrc.eld file therefore you
can delete from (setq gnus-format-specs) to the end of the file, double
check the paren's. And then when you're back into gnus, M-x gnus-compile,
which will rebuild the gnus-format-specs.

Out of curiousity, did the adding to this list slow down gnus startup and
buffer formatting?

d.
