I think it would be kinda fun to display real smiley faces instead of
":-)"s. (Under XEmacs, of course.) There are quite a lot of them,
though:  :-)  :-(  :->  8-)  >-)  :-=  ad nauseum.

Anyways. I just thought I'd mention it if somebody feels like getting
all arty and inspired to draw them. Then I could write
`gnus-article-turn-smileys-right-side-up' and include it in Red Gnus.

Of course, I could just digitize pictures of myself acting out all
those poses, but I wouldn't want to scare people *that* much.

Here's me with a false beard: :-]###

As long as you're going through all this trouble, I think this should
be an option.

For those in the LARS (Lars Adoration and Respect Society), it would
be nice to be able to do (setq lars t) and get the digitized pics and
setting it to nil would get the hand-assembled versions (of a gnu
acting out all the smileys, perhaps).

So you're volunteering to draw all the Gnuey smileys, I see? :-)

Doesn't sound very gnus-specific. Seems better to write
(smileyify-region) and (smileyify-buffer) and call one of them from the
proper hook.

Hm, I guess it depens what you have in mind. I think of >-( or >(
when I think "evil". Do you think it should be >-) -- if so, then you
are of course right. I guess we just keep the old one, then.

Well, I always thought that was a limitation of ASCII :) -- in some IM
applications, the tongue is right in the middle, and I think that does
look better.

Alex.

IMHO, the new evil definitely has the right eyebrows but the rest of
the expression looks "mad" not "evil". It should be a smile not a
frown, for example. (hence the reason that the > is in the ascii
version of it).

IE, compare the old face to the new and I don't see them portraying
the same emotion.

Actually, the poke isn't bad. Some icons I've seen for tongue
versions have the tongue slightly to one side, which I think looks
good (especially since the P in the ascii version is also on one
side).

Ok, I worked it over. You like the new one better? I also added two
new ones... I am still not too happy with "poke" but I think "cry" is
ok.

I will look at it later... In the mean time, feel free to use the

with the xpm files of the new icons?

The same for me. I don't see in the new evil an "evil" face.

Yes, this is in a Gnus bug report I sent the other day -- the xpm
files are not installed, thus you miss out on the yellow faces unless
you copy them yourself -- or unless you do as I did and change
smiley-data-directory to /usr/local/src/gnus/etc/smiley or something.
:)

Anybody interested in updated smileys? I used the Gnus smileys for
emacswiki.org, and started to play around with them... Give them a
look at http://emacswiki.org/pics/, if you are interested.
