What on Earth are LMI> they using to search the keys? MS Basic running on a 286? Not quite. The problem is that the way PGP is currently written key lookups are *HIDEOUSLY* slow on large keyrings. It is a brute-force linear search; PGP keyrings are unsorted, so the search has to go through each and every key to find a match. PGP 3.0, currently in develpment, addresses this issue. -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: 2.6.3 Charset: noconv iQCVAwUBMkwRQJ6VRH7BJMxHAQHXqgQAhMGvDnwm2c//Y1JuYt1ea/97Kwf8KqxQ QjAerSPQT/+D8fZ/dh7vkeM8F+DucmiNPnlTLjzDygbK04nbEaIZRU5x3xt5tj+c znGuG499dQdQ/ssUxu3pe5EqMtjJFdf2y5dk1zbOFbMI2NpigFr3vBVVcgJefE2u xpYrZ34olrs= =hUDc -----END PGP SIGNATURE----- -- Richard Pieri/Information Services \ Make your mark in the world, or at least \ spray in each corner. -A cat's guide to http://www.dfci.harvard.edu/ \ life
