I disabled gnus agent and adaptive scoring (the adaptive score files can
go up to tens of megabytes) and Gnus has been pretty fast except when
downloading attachments. I think it is due to the external program used
(gnutls?). I suspected by using openssl it will be faster but I have
never got it to work with gnus. So now I use gmail for emails and Gnus
for news.
