I recently tried to get gnus to use ange-ftp to read my mail from home. With XEmacs it does not work because when it can't find the file /nfs/u8/jasons/.newsrc-lynx.unm.edu/. it then tries to list /nfs/u8/jasons/. and then it gives up, but not under FSF Emacs 19.30 (both using the same setup files), as it then tries to find the .eld version, which exists. First, why does it look for a directory (i.e. the "/." at the end of the file name) - is that a Gnus bug or an ange-ftp bug? Second, why does Emacs continue properly but not XEmacs. Please don't force me to change back to Emacs. Here are sample ftp sessions from both Emacs and XEmacs: Sample from XEmacs ftp buffer: ftp> pwd 257 "/nfs/u8/jasons" is current directory. ftp> ls "-al /nfs/u8/jasons/.newsrc-lynx.unm.edu/." /tmp/ange-ftpa00752 200 PORT command successful. 150 Opening data connection for /bin/ls (198.59.151.207,1531) (0 bytes). 226 Transfer complete. ftp> ls "-al /nfs/u8/jasons/." /tmp/ange-ftpa00752 200 PORT command successful. 150 Opening data connection for /bin/ls (198.59.151.207,1532) (0 bytes). 226 Transfer complete. ftp> Sample from FSF Emacs ftp buffer: pwd ftp> 257 "/nfs/u8/jasons" is current directory. ftp> ls "-al /nfs/u8/jasons/.newsrc-lynx.unm.edu/." /tmp/ange-ftpa00829 200 PORT command successful. 150 Opening data connection for /bin/ls (198.59.151.207,1600) (0 bytes). 226 Transfer complete. ftp> ls "-al /nfs/u8/jasons/." /tmp/ange-ftpa00829 200 PORT command successful. 150 Opening data connection for /bin/ls (198.59.151.207,1601) (0 bytes). 226 Transfer complete. ftp> type binary 200 Type set to I. ftp> get /nfs/u8/jasons/.newsrc-lynx.unm.edu.eld /tmp/ange-ftpa00829 200 PORT command successful. 150 Opening data connection for /nfs/u8/jasons/.newsrc-lynx.unm.edu.eld (198.59.151.207,1602) (131304 bytes). 226 Transfer complete. 131304 bytes received in 0.146 secs (8.8e+02 Kbytes/sec) jas.
