Turns out I was wrong---Gnus would only *display* the X-From-Line
header (in the original nnml group) in one line like so:
X-From-Line: xxxxxxxx.xxxxx@xxxxxxxxxx.xxxxxxxxxxxx.xx Tue Feb 25 16:26:30 2003
Return-Path: <xxxxxxxx.xxxxx@xxxxxxxxxx.xxxxxxxxxxxx.xx>

MIME-Version: 1.0
Content-Type: text/plain; charset=iso-8859-1

However, the actual file on the disk has
X-From-Line: xxxxxxxx.xxxxx@xxxxxxxxxx.xxxxxxxxxxxx.xx Tue Feb 25 16:26:30
2003
Return-Path: <xxxxxxxx.xxxxx@xxxxxxxxxx.xxxxxxxxxxxx.xx>
(I can reproduce the phenomenon with the xxx's.)
Thanks for looking into this!
