The first version of gnus-sync used tramp, and I used an SSH URL with
tramp to do the syncing. Tramp was slooooow.
The current gnus-sync, which uses an HTTP RESTful protocol (the CouchDB
protocol), is lightning fast in comparison.

I think it was because it had many issues and few users...?
