I was moving childs under parents when something
locked up my emacs and I had to press C-g, but after the thread
    vanished from the Summary buffer.

What is the standard procedure to recreated nnml group?
    - I deleted .overview file
    - I killed C-k group from *Group* buffer
    - Recreated it with G m
    - Entered group
    - Left the group
    - Exited Gnus: q
    - Exited Emacs

And it still doesn't create .overview file and it still doesn't
find 3 nnml articles that are in the directory.

The new gnus summary buffer has 54 articles, but articles
52 58 62 65 are misisng: The ones that were part of
the thread I was reparenting. Looking into these aricles shows that
    articles have correct Xref line

    I have run gnus-cache-generate-nov-databases and
gnus-cache-generate-active from the summary buffer but
    I don't see any effect.

    What next?

You want to run nnml-generate-nov-databases, too.

Thank you. Nov the .overview file appeared fine in the disk,
but the Summary buffer still doesn't show the missing articles.
I don't have any more ideas why the articles won't show up
in there...

My guess is that the following will help:

Turn off threading in that group (e.g. with group parameters) or
just turn it off globally. Then enter the group. The missing
articles should appear. Now inspect the references headers. I
think you'll find something wrong, e.g. a loop of references.
Edit the articles and delete the offending references. Then
things should be fine when threading is turned back on.

Bad references headers can happen, for example, if you get confused
when using `T ^' and process mark the wrong article.

Question: could Gnus handle bad references more gracefully? Silently
omitting articles from the summary buffer is bad.

Dan

Exit Gnus.
M-x nnml-generate-nov-databases RET
save all buffers
Start a new Gnus.

Exactly! Esc-0 ESC RET to enter the group, then T T to
toggle threading, and last C-u Esc-g and the articles appeared.

I was losing my faith already...thank you so much.

I believe it soon will. This problem was recently reported by Hrvoje
Niksic and I sent a patch that seems to correct this (Hrvoje was not
definitive on wether this indeed solved the problem or not). If you
want to give it a try (please do and report success/failure) the patch
is in message <yg47m5fu9xw.fsf@lombric.s-ip.eunet.fr>.

Kim-Minh.
