Hi,

I think the `pop3-leave-mail-on-server' feature is insufficient.
There's only a function to leave mails on the server. Whenever
a user types `g', Gnus fetches the same mails again and again.

Why don't we add the UIDL support to pop3.el? It records
fetched mails and doesn't make Gnus fetch them again. There is
already a version of pop3.el which supports it. It is necessary
to modify mail-source.el slightly and the advice for it is
included there.

http://cvs.m17n.org/viewcvs/*checkout*/root/gnus/lisp/pop3.el?rev=1.6.30.21.4.10

In addition, it also supports SSL and TLS. Those features were
mostly written by Daiki Ueno, who is found in the AUTHORS file.

Regards,

I'm not happy with this neither, see
<news:v9mzypb0ea.fsf@marauder.physik.uni-ulm.de> and the doc string.

IIRC the XEmacs version supports it to, but I have no idea about the
assignment status there.

If you are sure who wrote the UIDL code an he has assigned it, we
should probably add it to v5-10 (as a bug fix), too.

Sounds rather like new features than a bug fix to me. Thus it should
only be installed in the trunk (No Gnus).

Bye, Reiner.

Oops. I found an old article written by Daiki Ueno in the
semi-gnus list archive and noticed that the UIDL code had not
been written by him. The origin seems to be XEmacs as you
wrote, but I couldn't find any logs. There's perhaps nothing
that can be done.
