I have read about it a bit via internet search. I found people praised it. People on FreeBSD forums wanted to have it on their OS. But from my limited experience with it, I can only tell one thing: It's very slow!

In what way is it slow?

Generally, SMF shouldn't be in a performance-critical path anyway, and its
ability to parallelize startup
of boot services can make boot quite a bit quicker than the old serial
boot.

With the caveat that there are almost always performance improvements
that motivated folks can make to any body of software, I suspect your
experience is not universal.  There are some aspects that are perhaps
more expensive than needed, today, such as initial import of a large
number of service bundles.

As an aside, because this has been happening a lot in the last month,
I want to call this out as a concrete example of a "low effort post".
It's taken me more time to write this reply than it took you to write
your thoughts.  If you are experiencing a performance issue, you will
need to do some leg work on your own before asking folks for help.  In
particular:

    - What are you doing that is taking longer than you expect,
      or completing at a rate lower than you would like?

    - Has this problem always existed, or did it start happening
      after a particular software update on a particular
      distribution?

    - What data have you gathered to know that SMF is even
      responsible for your performance issue?  We have many
      performance tools, and applying a technique for
      investigation such as "the USE method" is a good
      way to get started here.

If you've spent at least a few hours on this, and you've gathered some
data, then you'll have something more substantial to post about, and
something that we can likely help with.  You might even be ready to
file a specific bug against the OS, or to work on a fix!

Remember, the most important thing you can have in systems work is
_tenacity_.  It's critical, once you have a problem to solve, to just
get started any way you can.  Don't let the perception that you're not
a programmer, or not smart enough, get in the way; people can learn
all of these skills.  If you demonstrate that you want to learn and
that you're putting in the effort, folks here will be more than
willing to assist when you get stuck or need broader guidance.  This
mailing list is mostly volunteers and enthusiasts, though, so we can't
really do all of your homework for you generally.

Qnap ZFS vs Open-ZFS

How much ZFS is in Qnap ZFS

I saw that many recent OmniOS users switched to Qnap as it offers ZFS 
with affordable ready to use hardware. Due my new napp-it cs I checked 
the options to include Qnap in a managed ZFS serverfarm among other BSD, 
Linux or Illumos/Unix ZFS servers.

So my answer is: not too much
and the few is different, more ZINO (ZFS in name only) than ZFS, the 
real experience.
