Hi folks!
This is just a brief reminder that this mailing list (and, indeed, all
illumos project spaces!) operate under our code of conduct:
https://illumos.org/docs/community/conduct/
Please keep posts on-topic, which for illumos discuss which is
something along these lines:
- a single announcement mail for a new illumos
distribution, with links to a website, source
repository, downloads, etc
- a request for testing some in-progress illumos
change
- a question or set of questions (not strictly technical)
about illumos; e.g., if you need help debugging
something, or are experiencing what might be a bug,
or are trying to locate some documentation, etc
The list above is not exhaustive, but it's a good start. Another good
rule of thumb is: if nobody has replied to your message, it's best to
wait (at least for a day or two) for a reply rather than sending more
messages. It's a relatively low volume list, and folks are not always
immediately available to answer the more complex questions!
You can also look through the archives to see examples of the style
and content of past list posts:
https://illumos.topicbox.com/groups/discuss
If you need guidance on what's on-topic you're always welcome to reach
out to myself, or to any other members of the illumos core team, for
help:
https://illumos.org/docs/about/leadership/#current-members
Cheers.

For those who want to discuss historical topics/figures or how the industry has
changed, The Unix Historical Society provides two mailing lists you can use for
that - one for topics about Unix itself, and one for more general discussion:
https://www.tuhs.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo
As with all mailing lists, looking at the archives will help you learn what
topics the list owners/moderators consider to be on topic for each list, and
what subjects the current list members are interested in hearing about.
