Subject: Custom marks/article properties

Is there a way of adding custom marks to articles? I'd like to be able
to mark articles as "interesting", but none of the existing marks do
quite what I want.

More generally, is there a way of adding arbitrary "properties" to an
article?

Obviously, Gnus has an internal way of storing per-article data (I
guess it goes in .newsrc.eld) - is that user-accessible?
