* disroot email authentication failure

emacs 27.1 on debian bullseye (userland app)(a)
attempting again to configure & use gnus.
i have deleted ~/mail, ~/.nnmaildir, ~/emacs.d 
directories before attempting to start gnus.

** disroot email client settings(b).
IMAP Server: disroot.org
SSL Port: 993
Authentication: Normal Password

SMTP Server: disroot.org
STARTTLS Port: 587
Authentication: Normal Password

SMTPS Server: disroot.org
TLS Port: 465
Authentication: Normal Password

** my config for email:

~/.gnus
(setq gnus-select-method
      '(nnimap "disroot.org"))

** steps

> M-x gnus
> imap user & password (provided both my email 
id & password)
> nnimap (webmail.disroot.org) open error: ‘NO 
(AUTHENTICATIONFAILED) Authentication failed.’. 
 Continue? (y or n) –y
> "warning: opening nnimap server on disroot.org 
failed...: no(authenticationfailed) Authentication
failed, ; server nnimap+disroot.org previously 
determined to be down; not retrying. opening
