nnslashdot problems

hi all,

i am using gnus version 5.9 and have the nnslsahdot backend for
reading slashdot posts. i can subscribe to the groups fine, but all
the articles look like this

that's it nothing else ! the message buffer displays an error
wrong-type-argument number-or-marker-p nil.

can someone point me to the error that i must be making ?
