Dear Adam,

thank you for helping me on this issue.

I have Gnus v5.13 [Emacs 24.0.91 (9.0) on Mac OS X 10.7.2] and message-cite-style is "nil".
When I first posted this question (I included the link in my first post) Eric Abrahamsen suggested to set "message-cite-reply-position" to "above". Is that what you meant? I also found this via C-h v message-cite-style-gmail.

The problem with this is that the signature is not placed correctly (see my post on http://lists.gnu.org/archive/html/help-gnu-emacs/2011-11/msg00362.html), namely below the quoted message.
Do you know how to solve this?

Cheers,

Marius

The current development version of Gnus has an option to make top
posting easier in a way similar to what you describe.

You didn't say what version of Gnus you are using (and you didn't send
your message with Gnus, so I couldn't cheat and deduce the answer from
your headers :-))

But if you do use the development version, you'll probably want to look
at the variable message-cite-style, which you can set to one of the
canned message-cite-style-{outlook,gmail,thunderbird} or you can
configure options individually.

See the info node (message)Insertion variables.

  Best regards,

    Adam

P.S. I know it en vogue to scald people why to try telling people about
netiquette these days, but do consider whether interleaving your
answers isn't actually better than writing the answers above the
     questions. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Posting_style

Hi,

When replying to a message in Gnus (via "R"), the mail looks like this:

### snippet start ###
<header>
--text follows this line--
John Doe <address@hidden> writes:

(*)> Dear ...
>
 ...
### snippet end ###

The point is by default at the position indicated by (*). Is there an easy way
to put it in the following position and then insert a blank line between the
point and the "John Doe <...> writes:"?

### snippet start ###
<header>
--text follows this line--
(*)

John Doe <address@hidden> writes:

> Dear ...
>
 ...
### snippet end ###

Please note that I posted this question earlier on help-gnu-emacs (http://lists.gnu.org/archive/html/help-gnu-emacs/2011-11/msg00357.html) but received the advice to post it here.

Cheers,

Marius
