I do the following
M P a (which runs gnus-uu-mark-all)
B r (which runs gnus-summary-respool-article)
Using the menu that would correspond to
Misc->Process mark->Mark all
Acticle->backend->respool article
However this is method somewhat slow for large groups, so I would be
very happy to hear about a faster solution :)
