This time, I had logged in with the use of PuTTY, being bereft of a real operating system in my temporary location. In my main mail folder, wherein resides about 15000 messages, over 700 of which were tagged, appeared today an Asian spam. I only saw its foul visage for a mere moment before Gnus shifted to the next group. Upon return to the main group, I found that all the tagged articles, going back several years, were now untagged, simply through displaying the foul characters of the spam. I shall forthwith set up SpamAssassin to avoid any future disasters like this, and furthermore always run emacs within screen(1), which seems to filter most of the vile evil of symbols.
