It uses an estimate based on lowest and highest article number in the
group.  If there are "holes" in the sequence of article numbers (due
to deleted messages, perhaps), the estimate is wrong.

Maybe the current Oort Gnus (a snapshot, not 0.07) corrects this
problem, but I'm not sure.
