Re.: Renaming groups etc.

What is the right way to rename, delete etc. groups. I tryed G r for
renaming but got

Renaming group nnimap+AUC:INBOX.ARC_Aeolus to nnimap+AUC:ARC.Aeolus...
Couldn't rename group nnimap+AUC:INBOX.ARC_Aeolus to nnimap+AUC:ARC.Aeolus

Your IMAP server enforces the prefix "INBOX" on every group name, so you
can't have a group name without it.

I see that it works to rename to something including INBOX. I have
just had my mails transferred to another imap server. Previously I am
quit sure that I had these groups for archiving which did not have the
INBOX in the name. Am I mistaken or can that be done?

I think it depends on the server. I use two different accounts, and on
one I can have groups without INBOX prefix (I think this is a Cyrus IMAP
server) and on the other one I cannot (a Courier IMAP server).

Thank you for the explanation

IMAP servers always have a prefix on the group names, it's just that
sometimes that prefix is "" (the empty string). They always have a
separator too, either "." or "/" usually.

Gnus could do a better job of hiding the prefix, but I have not seen any
complaints (that I can recall).
