Hello.

When starting Gnus, I see two or three dummy groups, the default ones.
Thus, I press U, and type e.g. gnu.emacs.gnus. Then, I can read,
write, access, and do whatever I want with this group.
When I turn Gnus off, and that I turn it on next, my groups is not
here anymore.
However, when Gnus asked to save .newsrc-dribble or something like
that, I said "Yes".

Why? Thanks.

How did you "turn Gnus off"? Did you `q'uit, `s'ave, or do something
else?

What's in your .newsrc.eld BEFORE you start Gnus the second time?

Ted

I tried every possible combination you proposed.

It seems to be static (i.e. not being modified by Gnus).

I have to add every group I want to have a look at, each time I start
Gnus:

* gnu.emacs.gnus
* comp.sys.hp48
* gnu.emacs.help
* nnml:mail.misc
etc,

and it quickly becomes tedious.

Thanks for any help.

Make sure you use `q' or `s' to save your newsrc file.

Then you're not saving to it. If you add groups, the newsrc file should
change when you quit or save.

Please use `C-c RET C-f' to attach a file to an e-mail. It looks much

That is what I wanted to say. I tried many times to quit Gnus saving
my newsrc file (and it displays a message showing that it has been
saved correctly).

Surely, but I only show you the result. That is the main point of my
question. :-(

I would have liked to do it, but I am encountering other problems with
my computer where I can use Gnus, and I thus post the messages using
Google's website (that is why these messages are not PGP-signed).

Thanks for your help.

C-c RET C-f is undefined

So, is this special to your emacs/gnus configuration?

I'm sure Ted meant "C-c RET f" (mml-attach-file). The same function is
also bound to "C-c C-a".

I see. There's a serious problem with your setup or your Emacs (or
Gnus) installation, if `q'uit and `s'ave don't work. Can you install
Emacs 23.1 from source in a separate directory and try to use it? That
way we can establish a baseline of *something* that works.

Yes, sorry. I am so used to typing it the long way, I didn't even
realize it ends with `f' instead of `C-f'. My fingers at this point
simply remember the motion and I should have checked it.

I just realized that the only way to ask Gnus to save my .newsrc.eld
file is to type `s' then `q', as you stated. It now works. I do not
understand why it does not make the same thing when using Menus!

Sorry, this answer was for another thread. You can consider this
problem solved too.

Just `q' should do it. But what menu are you using that doesn't ask you
to save? This could be a bug so please tell us what exactly you did.
