 Can anybody resolve the 'gnus.org' domain ? 'gmane.org' also seems to have
 problems.

 I checked on  different servers with no response.

Here I get

Works for me:

 $ for h in gnus.org gmane.org; do host $h; done
 gnus.org                A       64.34.197.240
 gmane.org               A       80.91.229.2
 $
