How to get gnus to keep showing ALL subscribed groups even when there
are no unread articles?

I tried playing with and around "gnus-group-list-groups" but with no
luck.

In addition, how to hilite threads which I have contributed to?

thanks for any pointers, and sorry if the obvious is well documented but
I couldnt find it.

Press 'L' in your *Group*-buffer?

See "Listing Groups" in the "Group Buffer" part of manual:
 <http://www.gnus.org/manual/gnus_30.html#SEC30>

See "Followups To Yourself" in the "Scoring" part of the manual:
 <http://www.gnus.org/manual/gnus_242.html#SEC242>

That also shows unsubscribed groups like this:

 U *: nnfolder+archive:mail.2006-05
 U *: nnfolder+archive:mail.2006-06
      30: nnfolder+archive:mail.2006-07
 U *: nnfolder+archive:misc-news
       1: nnmaildir+MyMail:almost-certainly-spam
       1: nnmaildir+MyMail:spam
 U 1: rec.sport.cricket.info
      59: alt.de.test
      12: nnfolder+archive:mail.2006-08
     251: linux.debian.kernel
  [ misc -- 63 ]...
  [ games -- 0 ]
         0: comp.sys.ibm.pc.games.action

See the games grou? These are the ones I want listed in normal "l"
mode. The groups with * are where I marked an article so I still see the
goups in normal summary view.

I want normal "l" mode to show groups with 0 unread.

Oh, yeah. I didn't think of those.

So, did you try setting gnus-permanently-visible-groups as indicated
at the bottom of the "Listing Groups"-node?

I.e. setting:

 (setq gnus-permanently-visible-groups ".*")

?

So the "Followups To Yourself"-node was what you wanted for the second
question?

(Please note that I am not trying to be snarky here, I am asking you
where you looked, so it is possible to identify how to, perhaps,
improve the documentation).
