Kai, I found the culprit in ~/.emacs.el. Mea culpa except that I don't
know why the error appeared, since these lines had been there for
several weeks at least:

(setq gnus-score-find-score-files-function
      '(gnus-score-find-bnews bbdb/gnus-score))

Whew!! Had to fine-sift the file to find it.
