I presently use `groups' (comma-separated list of email ids) saved as text, for the same purpose. The text files are bookmarked with a common tag in keyword, i.e. `mail-group', and so its easy to locate with `C-x j f' in combination with a completion engine like icicles S-SPC and Backtab [1] An in-built Gnus functionality with BBDB integration or likewise should definitely be a huge cognitive offload.
