I have a maildir that I just want to inspect, so I have tried to make a
foreign group with `G f'. However gnus could identify the messages. I
have also tried `G d' in order to make a directory group, but it also
doesn't work.

Any hint?

Well, `G D', alias gnus-group-enter-directory seems to do the trick when
I point to the `cur' directory of the maildir. The only nitpick is that
it doesn't read the marks of any message (tick marks, for example).
