I have no idea what might be going wrong. Well, in order to confuse matters a little further, for no discernible reason *another* flaw has appeared. I am aware of changing nothing since yesterday, but regrettably the space bar is misbehaving! When in "Groups" the space bar takes me into the group and through the messages, when one group has no more unread messages, it moves you on to the next group, and so no. That was yesterday Today when the last message in a group is read the mini-buffer displays "No more unread messages". It does not change to the next group. It is not the end of the world, but it is wrong, and nothing I am aware of has changed since yesterday when it was working as advertised! I mention it here in case the two problems are symptoms of something else. I really don't like that it does different things on different days. Your thoughts? Why? That seems like a bad idea. No. Debian supply gnus as emacs 20 is also part of the stable distribution and as it wasnt advised against, I assumed I needed gnus, so I downloaded it. That consequently took presedence over the gnues that is internal to emacs21 Keith -- ___________________________________ _ Keith O'Connell. -o) Maidstone, Kent. There was a glitch back when woody was still unstable, and the stand alone Gnus on Debian would install (and supersede the native 5.9.0) on emacs21. Later versions of Gnus on Debian do not install for emacs21 (but would for emacs20 if you had both emacs20 and emacs21 on the same machine). I have not personally encountered situations (and I have both emacs20 and emacs21 on a machine for testing upgrades) where the Debian Gnus messed up.
