It saves the article into ~/News/dreaft/drafts with the next number as
the file name, but it is *still* has "*" against it in the Groups menu

I get "nndrafts: draft error:" in the status mini-buffer
I think I mentioned something in another mesage in this thread that I
was hoping for a comment on, so I shall re-state them here
.....however, 2 things struck me when I looked in the folder
1: there was no .overview file created as there is with mail
messages. Is this normal?
2: the message was saved with the file name "14", wheras I
would have expected to see the filename "1". Is there an
index ofthis folder somewhere, and could the problem be the
wherabouts of messages "1-13"?
