quoting in gnus

Is it possible to quote in gnus? What I mean is two types of quoting:

1. I want to paste a snippet of code. Can I make it look different than
the rest of my message?
2. If I read a post and I want to reply to it quoting a part of the
post?

One way to do this is to use boxquote.el; example:

,----[ C-h f gnus-summary-followup-with-original RET ]

You can find boxquote.el in the package emacs-goodies-el if you are
using Debian (or a derivate).

You can also use the "verbatim marks" that slrn (I think) pioneered; but
only slrn and Gnus interpret them, as far as I know.

Use R to Reply, or F to followup (instead of r and f).

Thanks, I got the boxquote.el file and put it in emacs folder. I'm using
slackware. It seems to load fine. That's the .emacs bit that I got from
some example of .emacs:

I can't use it though. I highlight some lines of a post and try those
key bindings, it only says that the buffer is read-only.
I assume that it's supposed to work like that: I read your post,
highlight the bit I want to include in my reply, press some keybindings,
and then F. Am I wrong?

You'll need to use those in the buffer of your reply.

Yes.

You quote by simply pressing F to follow-up, instead of pressing f.

boxquote.el is for including other stuff (documentation, source-code,
whatever).
