Is it possible to just key "n" to the end of the mail folder to read the
recent emails/postings, and still use "n" to open the next folder and show the
next unread posting please? And then just continue in a like fashion until
you've caught up with all your recent emails please? If so, how?

Thanks
Sharon.

That's exactly how it does work. When you reach the end of the messages,
you are prompted in minibuffer to press n again to jump to the next
grpup with unread messages. N works too, if you want to do the same
while including read messages.

Unfortunately mine isn't working like that, you get the prompt, and a
"double-n" just dumps you back at the "Group" message buffer, where you have
to manually choose the next group to be read.

This is with
Gnus v5.13
GNU Emacs 24.4.50.7 (i686-pc-linux-gnu, GTK+ Version 3.12.0) of 2014-04-19 on
london
