Well, after changing my settings to:

 (setq nnmail-expiry-target 'nnmail-fancy-expiry-target
            nnmail-fancy-expiry-targets
          '((to-from "gentoo-user@lists.gentoo.org" "nnfolder:gentoo.%b-%Y")
              (to-from "xfce@xfce.org" "nnfolder:xfce.%b-%Y") ))

I get the same behaviour; (as a matter of fact I had read the FM before
posting :-) )
TIA
