Thanks to Byung-Hee. The issue was solved withe help from Eric S
Fraga <e.fraga@ucl.ac.uk> on this channel.
To send on port 587, `smtpmail-stream-type' should be 'starttls.
To send on port 465, `smtpmail-stream-type' can be 'ssl.
