I appreciate emacs environment a lot and I use it as my primary *editor* but I would say - I don't have my linux to end up as a lisp programmer ;-). I've got to recommend procmail ( nobody mentioned it ) - this the definitive end of all scoring/sorting problems - and it works transparently !
