Hello,
When fetching mails with Gnus, my messages are deleted on the server,
but I would like to leave messages on the server, even when they have
been fetched by Gnus.
How can I manage to have such an option, assuming it is possible?
Thanks.

How is your mail-source-delete-incoming variable set?

I do not even have this variable. What should it be set to?
Thanks.

That variable is only about ~/Mail/Incoming* files. It's not about mail
on a remote POP/IMAP server.
If your Gnus downloads your mail from POP3 or IMAP server you should
read info page "(gnus) Mail Source Specifiers". For POP3 the variable is
pop3-leave-mail-on-server. For IMAP it seems to be ":dontexpunge t" flag
with the imap mail-source specifier . I have never used either of these
options so I'm not really sure how they work. (I use /usr/bin/fetchmail)

Thanks. The most difficult thing with Gnus is not to make it work, but
to find the names of the variables which can be set up.
Thanks.

Okay, I added
(setq pop3-leave-mail-on-server)
to the end of my .gnus file, as it seems not to be to put otherwise.
According to
http://www.gnu.org/software/emacs/manual/html_node/gnus/Mail-Source-Specifiers.html,
``if pop3-leave-mail-on-server is non-nil the mail is to be left on
the POP server after fetching when using pop3-movemail. '' As my mails
are still not left on the server, I would be using some other
front-end than pop3-movemail. Strange...

Do you, perhaps, mean
(setq pop3-leave-mail-on-server t)
?

Are you using POP? (IMAP would work somewhat differently.)

Sorry, I had forgotten the `t', by mistyping.
It now works, but I receive a weird UIDL-related message. It seems
that UIDL is not supported in a .el file.
However, everything works.

Here is the message (sorry for all the answers):
pop3.el doesn't support UIDL.

That means Gnus isn't recognizing the Unique ID Listing that identifies
each message from session to session. I think epop.el used to have
support for that, but I don't know what happened to it. It may not
cause you any problems, but it's hard to say for sure; that depends on a
lot of factors, not all of which are under your control.
If you want to leave your messages on the server, though, note that IMAP
is really much better designed for that purpose.

Most people don't sign usenet posts as it just adds a lot of "noise" on
certain news readers.

I was being a bit glib as I got told off a while ago for signing after I
had set it up out of curiosity :-;
