Is there a way of doing this? I'm getting pretty tired of trying to read
email from lazy people who can't be bothered to keep their lines to a
reasonable length, causing text to be wrapped in the middle of words.

It's not autofill, but you do know about hitting W-w on an unwrapped
post? That usualy sorts it out!

See `gnus-treat-fill-long-lines', which can do precisely this.

Thanks. It seems a bit more complicated than that since the same people
whose lines are so long also seem to send HTML email, but that's a good
starting point.
