OK, I have the agent running now, and it's fixed that problem - but only
at the creation of another (oh, I feel like a Microsoft programmer).

I have definitely not got nnml: in the agent programme (I went to the
servers list and did J r to make sure) but I can't check for new mail
(on our company mail-spool) without first plugging gnus in. How do I get
around this little annoyance?

Thanks again in advance for your help,
~ Rich
