problem with colors in summary buffer

hi,
for some reason I lost all my colors from gnus summary buffer. lines are
formatted correctly but no colors applied.

this is my line format:

  gnus-summary-line-format "%1{%U%R%z: %}%2{%d%}%5{ %[%4i%] %}%um %(%4{%-30,30n%}%6{%-4,4ur%}%5{ │ %}%1{%B%}%s%un%)\n"

and how I defined colors:

(defface face-1
  '((default (:foreground "grey30" :height 130))) "a gnus face 1")
(defface gnus-face-2
  '((default (:foreground "white" :weight bold :height 130))) "a gnus face 2")
(defface face-3
  '((default (:weight normal :height 130))) "a gnus face 3")
(defface face-4
  '((default (:foreground "orange" :italic t :height 130))) "a gnus face 4")
(defface face-5
  '((default (:foreground "grey40" :height 130))) "a gnus face 5")
(defface face-6
  '((default (:foreground "red" :height 130))) "a gnus face 6")

(setq gnus-face-1 'face-1)
(setq gnus-face-2 'face-2)
(setq gnus-face-3 'face-3)
(setq gnus-face-4 'face-4)
(setq gnus-face-5 'face-5)
(setq gnus-face-6 'face-6)

I updated Emacs to 24.2.92.1 (x86_64-apple-darwin, NS apple-appkit-1038.36).

Is there anything wrong in my configuration or has anything changed drastically
in gnus that might imply this weird visual look of summary buffer?

Typo?  Don't you want face-2 here?

Yup, sorry that's something I changed few minutes before my post to
experiment a bit (and forgot to revert it). 

Unfortunately the problem still exists :(

Interesting thing is, that all other places are colored as
expected. Summary buffer is an exception.

Could you please show your definitions of
gnus-user-format-function-{m,r,n} as well?

ahh here was the root of my problem - I removed sometime ago -n
function. gnus was tolerating this somehow in emacs-23 but looks like
it's not as much forgiving in emacs-24 :)
