This shouldn't be possible, since that `(quote (nil))' should be a list
of article numbers.  Is it possible that you have bits of older
Message/Gnus stuff installed "over" your Emacs files?
`M-x list-load-path-shadows' should tell you.

Working after a restart of emacs - might have been issues with updates
when using two instances of emacs simultaneously.

Re `M-x list-load-path-shadows': Thanks for this command - very
useful. There was nothing related to gnus, but I found some other
unintended shadows.
