Subject: Bug? Empty From: field in mail generates elisp error whet POPing mail.
Date: 09 Aug 2002 16:32:48 +0200	[thread overview]
Message-ID: <m3n0rwayr3.fsf@h136n2fls31o965.telia.com> (raw)

Recently I have received a great number of UCE/SPAM with the From:
field blank and this is upsetting my Gnus when I POP mail from my ISPs
mailbox.

Unfortunately the elisp message has scrolled out from my buffer so I
can not paste it here properly, but as I understand it (although my
elisp knowledge is rather limited) one of the functions called when
POPing reports an empty string and the process fails and sits there.

If there are a few mails that are okay first in the POP box, they will
be downloaded, splitted and that works, but when it encounters this
malformed message it stops and gives up.

I run Gnus v5.8.8 in GNU emacs 20.7.1 compiled for i386 (Red Hat Linux
distro 7.2).

Is there a work around for this somehow or should I upgrade to a new
version of GNUS? I have been looking a little at Oort but I am afraid
I need to read up a lot more before I can do the transition without
running into any problems with my old .gnus settings.

Anyway, my temporary solution so far has been to use my ISPs web mail
to log in and remove the offending message, then I press 'g' from the
groups buffer and everything works fine.

Have a nice weekend fellas! :)
