Does %&user-date; do what you want?

and then including %B in gnus-summary-line-format like in

(If you write the unicode characters verbatim in .gnus, remember to put
the lines

;; -*- emacs-lisp -*-
;;coding: mule-utf-8-unix

at the top of .gnus so Emacs knows it's Unicode.)
