I saw a snippet on MGO for Opera. The perl/gnuclient side should run
on IE as well. But how can you specify that perl script as mail client
to IE? IE in all its glory only seems to offer Outlook and OE on my
machine in the drop box where you specify the email program...

I'd love to change that, but I have not found how to do it.
