Something like (in your ~/.gnus):
(setq gnus-message-archive-method '(nnml ""))
(setq gnus-message-archive-group
'((if (message-news-p)
"sent-news"
"mail.sent-mail")))
This will archive news messages to an nnml group called sent-news and
sent mail messages to mail.sent-mail.
